Essay - I’m Y.A., and I’m O.K. - NYTimes.com →
Every YA author should read this. My favorite line: Mark Haddon, who wrote numerous novels for children before “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” said in an e-mail message that he recalled “a number of people looking down their noses at me when I explained what I did for a living, as if I painted watercolors of cats or performed as a clown at parties.”

NUMBER YOUR PAGES!!!!
I printed out my entire 275-page draft of book 2 this morning … and promptly dropped it. Guess who forgot to number her pages? I spent about an hour trying to put it back together, nearly cried, then said “fuck it” and am going to print it out again. Sorry, rain forest. I like you and all, but my sanity needs me to just call a mulligan on this one.

Maureen Johnson: THE ADVENTURE OF THE RANDOM HOUSE →
maureenjohnsonbooks: By popular demand* I bring you the Random House/FedEx story. This happened not *too* long ago. This is partially by memory, but I did write it down afterwards, because it was so great. MAUREEN wanders into the local FedEx with a package she needs to send to Random House publishers. Random House… This is unbelievably delightful
